Introduction
Mampei Hotel, a classic-style hotel founded in 1894,
has always been a part of the history of the summer
resort area of Karuizawa.
The founder, Mampei Sato, was inspired to create the
hotel from his experiences with missionaries from
overseas.
Out of a desire for guests to feel as at home here in a
foreign country as in their hometowns,
he incorporated aspects of Western culture and
treated guests with warmth and genuine hospitality.
